Carfax College Story
At the heart of the City of Oxford, the ancient crossroads formed by the four roads leading from the old city gates gave birth to the name ‘Carfax’, derived from the Latin quadric-furcus, meaning ‘four-forked junction’. The first Carfax business, Carfax Consultants, adopted this name to symbolise the guidance provided to those at educational ‘crossroads’ in their lives.
In 1610, a fountain was placed at Carfax, sourced by the Carfax Conduit, which channelled fresh water to Oxford’s citizens from the surrounding hills. This fountain, chosen as the company’s symbol, embodies the values of Carfax Education. Carfax College in Oxford, situated near this historic site, stands as a fountain of knowledge, drawing from one of the world’s most eminent academic foundations.
